Coosawattee Native American Powwow and Gathering in Ellijay, Ga. this weekend

The Coosawattee Native American Powwow and Gathering that Burning Taper wrote about a few weeks ago is this weekend, May 5 and 6.

Experience Native American arts and crafts, music, dancing, food, storytelling, and much more. Gates are open from 9 am to 6 pm. Admission is $5 for adults, $3 for kids, and the little guys and gals under five are free.

There will be a Grand Entry at 1 pm both days.

Camping sites are available for RVs ($15) and tents ($7.50).

The powwow is to raise money for a 501(c)(13) organization known as Talking Rock Cherokee Memorial Cemetery to help preserve this historic native site that was a known stockade to hold Cherokees before the removal know as the Trail of Tears. The website is www.cherokeecemetery.org.

Native American violin/fiddle musician Arvel Bird, a Nammy winner & INMA winner, will be featured, along with Nammy-winner Tommy Wildcat and Aztec dancer Jose Banta.

Dancers and drummers are welcome. Bring your drum. Bring your chair. Bring your family.

The event will be held in the Lions Club Park along the Coosawattee River in Ellijay, Ga.
